Pick a Damn Place privacy

Pick a Damn Place helps groups choose where to eat. It is for casual group planning, not confidential or sensitive information. No account is required.

The invitation link grants access to a party. Anyone with the link can view its name, participant names, choices, and search location, and can try to join. Share it only with people you are comfortable seeing that information.

Your browser asks before sharing your location. When you search, the app sends your coordinates to Google Maps Platform to find restaurants. External links you open are subject to those sites’ privacy policies.

Party names, participant names, restaurant IDs, search coordinates, and choices are stored for the active 12-hour party. Resetting the round renews that period. Expired parties are inaccessible and removed on subsequent session requests.

For abuse prevention, the app uses a short-lived hash of the network address supplied by Cloudflare to limit repeated requests. The raw address is not stored in the app’s rate-limit table; those records expire within about two hours. Anonymous monthly Google request counters enforce usage limits.

Google restaurant details are retrieved for display and are not saved in party data or browser storage. Google photos open on Google Maps; this app does not download them. A participant credential is stored in your browser so you can rejoin a party. The hosting platform may maintain its own operational logs.

If advertising is enabled, a Google AdSense ad may appear on the start screen. Google may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads under its own privacy policy. Ads are separate from restaurant listings and do not affect which places appear, matches, or votes. Ad consent choices may be shown where required.
